Homeschool Fliphouse Before Pictures Plus Floor Plan

This post is to document the condition of the 2 bedroom 1937 rental house I’m flipping into a dedicated homeschool house for my family.

As you can see, the original wood siding needs to be replaced. The siding itself is splitting and some of the window sills are rotting.

Picture of the back door, which enters into the kitchen

Here’s a shot of the inside of the former kitchen. That little closet between the window and the back door is actually the ironing board closet, which used to be a thing and apparently in 1937 it was in the kitchen. So cute. I’m going to add shelves and make it a paint and craft supply closet, because the kitchen is going to be our science and art room (and anything else that involves making a mess). Also, the horrendous ceiling fan is going.

A few years back there was a hurricane that caused some water damage to the plaster ceilings and walls. The roof was replaced, and things were fixed, except the cosmetics of the plaster. This photo of the living room, and another of a bedroom wall, are examples.

The next picture is looking from the kitchen into the hallway that leads to the two bedrooms and bathroom. You can see the original telephone recess built right into the plaster wall. I plan on putting a statue here, perhaps of Jesus the Good Shepherd, because it is the major siteline when you walk in from the back door. Above the telephone recess is the fuse box.

Here is a floor plan so you can get a better sense of the house and the plans I have for its transformation into a dedicated homeschool space:

This last picture I’ll share for this post is a picture looking from the corner of the hallway back toward the kitchen (which is to the left), and you can see the telephone recess next to the full length mirror.

So much has changed since I took that photo of myself on June 27, 2020. I had just finished filming my first ever video for YouTube to show the before condition of the house (the video will be released soon). This website was just an idea.

I had also just found out that I was expecting our fourth baby two days earlier. Now I’m 2.5 months away from delivering our little boy, and I’m *significantly* bigger. When you feel so big and everyone thinks you’re due any day (“What?!? You still have 2 months to go?!?” Everyone makes this comment with each of my pregnancies! I don’t mind.), it’s hard to remember that I will indeed feel normal again, and regain a body I recognize. But it’s worth it! No matter what I do or build or achieve, nothing compares to miracle of saying “yes” to cooperating with God as He creates an immortal soul, a soul which has never existed before and will exist forevermore.

Merry Christmas,
